 The staff at weirdsci.com would like to wish all of our readers a very Merry Christmas! Hopefully Santa will be good to you this year. If not, well, we’d like to offer a consolation prize of some UFO stories, some ghost stories, and some weird things you might not find elsewhere.
So, here’s to hoping the ghosts don’t spook you away from opening your Christmas presents and the aliens don’t steal your tree. Merry Christmas everyone!

 Back in August, we broke off from the Alcwi staff, with the idea that people were every bit as interested in the paranormal as they were in actual science. It was a scary process, as we could have easily tanked and went down the tubes, having given up our former positions without any chance at looking back, but the gamble paid off!
Not only did you show us your support, you also bowled us over by making us even more popular than the site we broke away from. Perhaps, in this one case, the spin-off has worked out better than the original, and it’s because of you that we’re all very thankful this Thanksgiving. So, how do we intend to show our appreciation? By introducing more in-depth stories of famous cases we’ve dug up (you should see all the holes in our backyard), by investing more criptids (creatures of mythology that some say actually exist), and by daring to investigate anything science chooses to turn its nose up at.

As we’re considered to be the new home of the odd, the strange, and the misunderstood, you just know we’re going to do something special for Halloween!
Here’s the deal. We’re setting our standard Monthly Buzz Contest aside for a month so we can host a special Halloween contest, and there will be three prizes: $100 for 1st place, $50 for second, and $25 for third.
Here are the rules:

- This contest is open to any and all ages. All entries must be in English, and they won’t be edited – so be sure to polish them up before hitting the submit button!

 As promised, Weird-Sci has added a forum. You can access it from the category menu at any time.
You’ll find two different sections to the forums – one for guests and one for registered members. As our goal is to develop an online community, we’re creating a haven where discussions can be held in private, without the inherent spam that comes from being on the internet. To that end, no spam will be allowed on the forums – but anything else you want to discuss is allowed.
So, check out the forums, and let us know if you see the need for more topics as we’ll gladly add them. Heck, if you’re nice enough we might even give you a forum of your own – just make sure you have a crowd ready to listen to what you have to say, as we can’t deliver that part to you.

 The Weird-Sci Buzz Contest begins September 1st, 2010, and here’s how it works … If you submit your story and we post it on our site, then it’s automatically entered into our monthly contest. And what’s the prize if you win? $25!!
Here’s the small print you were looking for, where we discuss all of the rules:
- You must provide a valid email address to be entered into the contest. After all, we have to have some way of notifying you if you win, right? You can also register for the site, but this is not required
- There is no limit to how many submissions you can make each month, but all stories must be your own and must be true

 Have you experienced something you can’t explain? Did you see a ghost? Maybe you saw a UFO. It’s even possible you were abducted by aliens. Whatever you have to share, we’d like to hear it. In return, we’ll publish your story and try to offer any explanation we can for what you witnessed.

We’ll review your story and let you know if it’s one we would like to publish. As we expect a large response, we will need to limit how many stories we will publish. Still, your story has as much of a chance as any other of making it on the front page, so be certain to sent it in!

We’ll look deeply into the world of voodoo science, bringing you the long list of curiosities that many of us believe are out there. And while we will remain skeptical, we’ll certainly give each topic its due attention.
What, you may ask, is voodoo science? Well, the best definition is those topics that can be found on the fringe of science. And why do certain topics wind up on the fringe? Some lack proof, while others seem to have already been thoroughly debunked. But if none of these topics are credible, then why do many of us still believe?
